The three-track single Arrows In Words From The Sky gave some indication of what direction the new line-up of Machine Head were taking, with massive melodies that feel perfect for an arena run. Catharsis was an enormously divisive album and also the last with the band's long-term players Dave McCain and Phil Demmel. Speaking of Machine Head, word on the playground is that work is well underway with their tenth album, tentatively expected before the band come over for a massive arena tour in September with viking metal masters Amon Amarth. Rather than be het up at being imprisoned and ultimately forced to flee their home country to Norway, the band instead used their frustrations to fuel a stunning third record which touches in on groove giants Sepultura and Machine Head whilst bringing their own fire and personality to the fore.

IFMCA-associated reviews website, MundoBSO, rated it seven out of ten stars. Ehrmantraut concluded: 'If Two Steps from Hell classically delivers slices of larger stories and flashes of unfinished dramas, then quite excitingly, VanquishвЂ™s longer numbers, more extensive lyrics, and subtler orchestrations may, in places, be a little closer to offering us fully-fledged plotlines.' Overall she felt 'last yearвЂ™s output was more compelling' ( Classics Volume Two and Battlecry) but that both of the aforementioned 'lacked finer points of instrumentation compared with Vanquish'. She was most critical of the album's lyrical tracks, calling them an 'iffier proposition' compared to tracks featuring choirs. She claimed the album was 'finessed in comparison with some of the groupвЂ™s earlier releases'. The review by Brigid Ehrmantraut published in The Princeton LP was also favourable.
